It feels like we have been in our own version of the movie Groundhog's Day, starting over each week. I am looking forward to our first 5 day week in a very long time! We are continuing our work with Red Yarn. Students have begun to create their puppets - they are fantastic! Check out the Photos page for your artists in action. We originally had a little performance scheduled for this Thursday. Due to the schedule changes with the snow days we have moved the performance to the following Thursday, February 2nd. It will be from 1:45-2:05 in the cafeteria. This should leave us enough time to return to the classroom to prepare for dismissal. I will let you know if this changes! We have spent the last couple of weeks learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and discussing how we can use powerful words to help change our world. We read the story Martin's Big Words and students created their own colorful collages of words they feel are powerful. We are creating a bulletin board display in the classroom so please stop by and have a look. I'll post a picture once we have finished it. Another rescheduled event is coming this Friday - Pajama Day! Students are welcome to wear their pajamas to school and we'll have a special celebration postponed from before Winter Break.

My goodness this has been a crazy start to 2017! I am hopeful that this weather is behind us and we can get back to our normal routines. I am looking forward to hearing all about everyone's adventures in the snow. The end of the grading period has been adjusted a week and now ends February 2nd. In order to help prepare for report cards I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups to assess various skills during the next few weeks. I am looking forward to sharing with you the growth your child is making! The winter weather has interrupted our Artist in Residency activities with Red Yarn. We have a make up session scheduled Wednesday, January 18th from 12:20 - 1:10. Students will be creating sock puppets and we'd love some help. We also need help on our Friday session from 8:15 - 9:05. If you can spare an hour to help us either of these days please let me know. If you are looking for something for your child to do at home I wanted to remind you that your child has access to Reflex Math and Tumblebooks online. If they cannot remember their password for Reflex Math email me and I will send it to you. It can be accessed at: https://www.reflexmath.com/home. The login is: sschiada. You can access Tumblebooks at: http://www.tumblebooklibrary.com. The username is: pps and the password is: books. Reminder: Scholastic Book Order Due - Friday, January 20th |
