We are going to give Run for the Arts another try this week. First graders will be running from 8:30 - 9:00 on Friday. Hopefully the rain will stay away!
We are looking forward to our fieldtrip to the Northwest Children's Theater on Thursday. We should be back to school at around 11:45. Since this is past our regular lunch time we will be eating in the classroom and then we'll have our recess break. Thursday night is the annual Glencoe Art Show. Students have selected two of the art pieces they completed during our Art Infusion sessions. Come see all the artwork Glencoe students have been creating! The show begins at 6:00. In math we are continuing our geometry unit. This week the focus will be on exploring 3-D shapes. Students will name shapes and describe by their attributes. They will also use polydrons (a VERY popular math manipulative) to construct cubes, triangular prisms and pyramids. In reading we continuing to work on identifying the problem and the solution for the stories we read together and those they read independently. A fun activity from this past week were the collages students made inspired by Matisse and the book Drawing with Scissors. We also read the book When Pigasso met Mootisse. It was fun to revisit the work of Picasso!
