We have a busy week ahead with one of the school year's most popular events on Friday - Run for the Arts. Students have been busy gathering sponsors - sheets are due on Tuesday! First grade is scheduled to run from 8:30 - 9:00. If you would like to help out there is a sign up sheet posted by the cafeteria. If it rains the event will be rescheduled.
We have a fieldtrip planned for next Thursday, May 4th. Please turn in permission slips and money by this Wednesday. After that I will notify parents if their names were drawn to be chaperones. I really wish we could take more adults but unfortunately we are limited to 4 chaperones. We have another fieldtrip to Zenger Farms coming up at the end of May so there will be another opportunity. We are so fortunate to have such a supportive group of parents - thank you for understanding about the limited spots. A big thank you to our parent volunteers for the Art Infusion lesson last week. Students did a watercolor of cherry blossoms. They had so much fun with the different techniques. Photos posted on the Photos page. In reading we have been working on identifying the setting of stories both read aloud and read independently. Students are using both illustrations and text as evidence to support their thinking. We will be moving on to talking about problem and solution over the new couple of weeks. I writing students are finishing a piece where they state an opinion about one of Ezra Jack Keats' books. They then support their opinion with at least two reasons. They will be selecting their own topic to write an opinion about this week as well. In math we are beginning our geometry unit. This week will include identifying and describing 2 dimensional shapes by their attributes. Important Dates Tuesday, April 25th Run for the Arts sponsor sheets due Wednesday, April 26th Permission slips due Friday, April 28th Run for the Arts Thursday, May 4th Fieldtrip to Northwest Children's Theater
