We are well into our newest writing unit - Opinions! We have been using the books of author Ezra Jack Keats during this unit as students identify what they like or don't like about a book and support their opinion. They will be writing an original piece this week where they state and opinion and write at least three supporting reasons.
In addition to read books by Ezra Jack Keats we are finishing up our fable unit. We have one more story to explore and then we will be focusing on the songs that go with the fables. We are hoping to be performance ready by mid to late May. I know it will be here before we know it! We are also still focusing on retelling stories with a beginning, middle and end by identifying the important events. In math we are continuing to work with facts to 20 identifying different strategies to add and subtract. Some of the strategies include: doubles, doubles +/- 1, Add 10, Add 9 and make 10. We were also working with the commutative property through the use of Double Flap cards. This week will be focused on story problems that involve joining, separating and comparing amounts.
