We are two weeks in to our first science unit, Spinning Sky. This unit explores the patterns of the sun and moon. We started by discussing shadows. Used flashlights to explore how shadows change shape and direction based on the location of the light source. Your child brought home a gnome this past week. We took our gnomes out to the playground three times during the day and traced the shadows. We then discussed why the shadow changed at different times of the day.
We also had our first art experience, learning about Pablo Picasso. I like to start the year with this artist because we can use a variety of mediums while also looking at many of his different styles. Children really connect to seeing that art can be expressed in so many different ways. We started with his early works and created a realistic piece using markers. Photos from both our science lessons and art can be found on the Photos page of the blog. Reminder: Picture Day is Tuesday and book orders are due on Friday!
