Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful break. Things are back to business as usual in Room 108.
I have updated the Volunteer Calendar to show available spots to read with students through March. I would like to call your attention to a couple special volunteer opportunities. We have Art Infusion scheduled for this Wednesday, January 9th at 10:00. Please let Owen's mom, Julianna ([email protected]) know if you are interested in helping. Our first Artist in Residency session was Friday. We are working with Andy from Red Yarn. This is the 3rd year the first graders are working with Andy and it is off to a great start. You may have seen his performances around town too! He will be teaching each class a folk song and leading them in creating sock puppets to accompany their song. This week we began learning our song and students created a plan for making their puppet. I've included some pictures on the Photos page. We will be making the puppets and could use some help from parents. I have listed the two dates on Sign Up -you can access it on the Volunteers page of the blog. The first date is this Friday at 9:20 and the next is Friday the 18th. If you are having difficulty accessing the sign up form let me know. In math we have begun to explore using the number line as a visual model. We will be using this tool in whole group lessons and independent practice activities for solving addition and subtraction problems. In reading we spent the short week reviewing strategies and procedures as we get ready to begin a new unit.
