I am just loving this sunshine! Spring is definitely here - finally! We are having so much fun in math exploring fractions. The standard in first grade is that students can divide circles and rectangles into 2 or 4 equal shares and use vocabulary such as halves and fourths. Students enjoyed playing fraction BINGO last week as they applied these concepts.
In reading we continue to build upon our comprehension strategies and will be practicing fluency this week. We are wrapping up our opinion unit in writing. Students have been working on book reviews and will be choosing one to publish as a final draft. Part of polishing up this final piece will include checking for punctuation, capitalization and spacing. I've updated the volunteer calendar for the month of May. So if you are interested in reading with kids, check it out!
