Two big events in first grade both happened this week - and thanks to the snow day they were on the same day! We have been keeping track of the number of days in school and the milestone of the 100th day was on Thursday. Since this was also Valentine's Day we celebrated the number 100 both Thursday and Friday. We read the story, Wolf's Chicken Stew where the main character Wolf thinks he is fattening up Chicken for his dinner by delivering items such as 100 pancakes, a 100 pound cake and 100 cookies. Imagine his surprise when he makes his final visit to Chicken's house only to be thanked enthusiastically by her 100 chicks as they smothered him with 100 kisses. I surprised the class by hiding 100 chocolate kisses around the classroom that they needed to find and place on a 100 grid. You can see photos of the fun on our Photos page. We found almost all of them. Students also wrote 100 words, counted and graphed the different toppings on a 100 topping pizza and wrote about celebrating their 100th birthday. Valentine's Day was another fun event as students spread the love and friendship with their classmates. It is always one of my favorite days to watch and listen as they seek each other out and thank them for their cards. There are still a couple of spots left for the Craftacular afternoon event being offered through the auction! See item #914 in the auction catalog.
